IAM is the most critical security service in AWS. It's how you control "who" (users, applications) can do "what" (actions) on "which" (resources). You use it to create users and roles with *minimal* permissions, instead of using your all-powerful "root" account.
How to use in a modern clinic:
- Create a "developer" user who can update Lambda functions but *cannot* access client data in S3.
- Create a "backup" role that can only write to your backup S3 bucket.
- Enforce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all users.
